To Live Life Consciously
This journey of motherhood is never static with change as its constant theme. As soon as we get comfortable and think we have the right formula for balancing it all, everything shifts. While I love it, the peaks and valleys can be exhausting as well as humbling.
Last May, after two years of intense focus on building and sustaining my business (which I love) AND crafting a healthy balance at home, I felt compelled to indulge a deep desire to spend more time with my kids. But in order to do so, something had to give and it turned out to be writing my newsletter.
It was innocent enough when I skipped the first month. My thoughts went something like this... ”My readers are busy moms, too—they will understand.” Well, one month turned into two, then three. I kept hearing that niggling voice in the back of my mind saying, ”What about the newsletter? When are you going to get to it?”
And then came the light bulb moment when I returned to my fundamental beliefs: we cannot do it all and we must consciously choose priorities and set intentions. This is where I tripped up. I coach clients every day to live consciously in order to attain balance and fulfillment, but I wasn’t taking my own advice! By not officially declaring my intention to take time off from writing when my priorities shifted, I fell prey to having my energy sapped by incessant twinges of guilt.
Fortunately, outweighing my diminished energy was the benefit of a deeper, slower presence with my family. I have embraced motherhood on an entirely new level. My relationship with my daughter is better, and I discovered she simply needed more of my attention. With the valuable lessons, I feel stronger and more equipped as a mother, partner, daughter, and coach.
Are you consciously setting the priorities and intentions in your life? Check-in with yourself. What main concern do you most desire to honor right now? What can you let go of in order to focus on and manifest that priority?
